How Sahaj Retail improved security, performance, and cost efficiency in the Cloud

Sahaj Retail is a medium enterprise in India working to bridge the digital divide between urban and rural communities. Under the Government of India’s National e-Governance Plan (NeGP), Sahaj delivers online services that drive financial and digital inclusion in villages. Through its holistic model, the company focuses on economic empowerment, livelihood enhancement, and improving quality of life in rural India. 

Challenge

Sahaj faced multiple issues within its cloud setup. Dormant AWS accounts and unmanaged resources created security vulnerabilities. Virtual Private Clouds (VPCs) and load balancers were not used effectively across environments, resulting in resource wastage. Outdated SQL Server versions slowed application performance, while backups were not validated through regular restoration tests.

Solution

To address these challenges, Sahaj partnered with Bosch Mobility Platform and Solutions, a certified AWS Solution Provider & SMB Competency Partner. The team validated security groups, IAM roles, and load balancers reducing risks from dormant accounts. Development, UAT, and production environments were separated using dedicated VPCs, bringing clarity and control to daily operations. Application performance was enhanced by upgrading to better-performing EC2 instances. Regular backup restoration tests were introduced to improve reliability and recovery.

Results

The transformation delivered measurable outcomes. Sahaj achieved a 20% improvement in application performance with upgraded EC2 instances. Regular backup testing brought 99.9% uptime, cutting downtime dramatically. Automated processes and optimized resource use reduced costs by 15%. Most importantly, security risks were reduced across the board, giving Sahaj Retail a secure, reliable, and cost-effective cloud foundation to support its operations.
